Dagger Bright
by Sophia Potter
·
I am bright as a dagger
Eyes of molten golden
Full of the solar rays
of the Lion-headed Sekmet
My eyes they cut into you
and I am sorry
I cut into you
and I did not know
the cost
of earthly delights or
the astral flights
They took me
My power it shook me
Shook me into a little girl again
Small, smiling and full of gentle thoughts
of Nineveh
of dark forests
You do not believe me
And it's okay
I don't need you
I know the way home
Night is here
And the sky is black and quiet for once
I do not fear the monsters who hunt
in the cool black quiet
I have traversed the ravines of my soul
I have seen the monsters in the well
I have faced the lion's in their den
I have cut my arms off and bled
I have burned at the stake
They took my brother's arm
They tried to do us so much harm, twin
Brother in the dark, in the dusk
Closed in a cage
I was a follower of Christ
Do you remember my fair hair?
You and I,
So lean and fair
I heal my memories now
But they burned me once
and I alone could bear
their evil weight
