Dagger Point

by Sophia Potter

I am bright as a dagger

eyes of molten golden

full of the solar rays

of the lion-headed Sekmet

my eyes they cut into you

and I am sorry

I cut into you

and I did not know

the cost

of earthly delights or

astral flights

they took me

my power it shook me

shook me into a little girl again

small, smiling and full of gentle thoughts

of Nineveh

of dark forests

You do not believe me

And it's okay

I don't need you

I know the way home

Night is here

And the sky is black and quiet for once

I do not fear the monsters who hunt

in the cool dark night

I have traversed the ravines of my soul

I have seen the monsters in the well

I have faced the lion's in their den

I have cut my arms off and bled

I have burned at the stake

They took my brother's arm

They tried to do us so much harm

Brother in the dark, in the dusk

Closed in a cage

I was a follower of Christ

Do you remember my blonde hair?
