Warrior King

by Sophia Potter

I thought you were supposed to be

A warrior like in the stories of old

but you are just a man

Aeolus,

King of the Winds

you did not reach to hold my hand

for you did not understand

the words we had written

sometimes the tall oak exist only for itself

commander in chief,

take command of your fleet!

lion-hearted conqueror!

Eos touched you,

now you're hers!

You hurt her once

do you remember?

you thought her words

were vile, tragic

that she could turn a worm

into a rabbit

you had forgotten the stories

and the old magic

so you panicked

Do you still listen to the birds sing in the morning?

do you watch the grey clouds dance?

do you remember anything beautiful?

how we would dance in the bitter morning

cold, alone and ready for war

I wonder,

if it is just me, sitting, glittering,

all alone

in my glorious misery,

combusting and transfiguring

all because you wouldn't listen to me,

all because you don't know your own heart

I sometimes I still hear your song

even if you are long gone

all alone in your crystal palace

you didn't even give me a chance to explain

all of the pain

perhaps in the next life

we'll try again
